Day 1 of the USPA National Skydiving Championships kicked off at Skydive Perris

with Canopy Formation Flying.

The event got started with eight teams competing in 4-way rotations. Team - Elsinore Too Wrapped Up - took the lead in each round, posting their highest score of 18 points in Round 2. Coincidentally, on the first attempt of Round 2, one of the team’s members experienced a canopy malfunction that resulted in a cutaway. Chief Judge Randy Connell inspected the equipment and authorized the team for a re-jump.

After four rounds, Air Force Midnight Hammer sits in second place with an impressive average of 10.5 points. Meanwhile, Five Racoons in a Trench Coat — which may have earned the unofficial award for favorite team name — holds third place.

After the rotation teams completed their four rounds, 11 two-way open sequential teams took to the skies. Golden Knights proved difficult to beat, scoring more than 20 points in every round and finishing the day with an impressive 21.8-point average.

Bad Advice Club also put together several strong rounds, with its highest score so far coming in Round 2 with 17 points.

While Elsinore Yahoos 2 might not have put up the highest-scoring rounds, they certainly entertained the judges by losing not one, but two shoes during their Round 3 jump.

The two guest teams from Qatar also put up some seriously impressive scores during their first four rounds. Qatar A scored an impressive 30 points in Round 2.
